My name is Kevin. My goal is to craft my life into what I imagine it could be.

I’m unemployed at the moment and am fighting to live life on my own terms, rather than having circumstances dictate what is and what is not possible. This blog is about building a life.

This blog focus on the following topic areas:

Personal Finance:

I want to organize my finances to be financially free. I am a great fan of building up an emergency fund and working towards financial security. I like frugality, but do not want it to be an end in itself. Money is meant to give you the tools to be able to live your dreams and do exactly what you would like to.

I plan to have a million US$ investment portfolio in the next 10 years. It feels great to be a “ten-thousandaire” and I hope to be a “hundred-thousandaire” very soon. I work every day at improving my knowledge and skill in investing.

Lifestyle design:

My goal is to live life according to the my values and focus solely on the things that I value. I do not value a car, so will not be buying the latest BMW any time soon. I do value having the time and financial ability to travel the world, learn new languages, do new things, build valued relationships.

“How can I craft a career to be able to live a “location independent” life?” – this is one of the themes that occupies my thoughts constantly. I worked in the hotel industry in a ski resort during the 00’s. This allowed me the luxury of only working 9 months per year and to be able to travel for the rest of the time. I’m still trying to figure out what I would like to do with my life. In the meantime, I’m looking for a career where I can do something worthwhile and be able to travel.

I would love to live in different parts of the world. So far, I have lived in South Africa, Ireland, the US, Brazil, Peru and Argentina. I hope to spend at least 3 months, at a time, in more countries to experience the culture and learn some more languages. The top of my list at the moment are Asian countries.

I plan to post something every Tuesday and Friday and have a roundup of great articles around the web on Sundays.
